During the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, unidentified motorcycle riders shot and killed a police constable in Uttar Pradesh's Orai Jalaun, after he stopped them and shone a flashlight to see their faces near the highway police post. Constable Bhedjeet Singh, aged 36, was shot in the head and killed while chasing some boys whom he had stopped, as confirmed by the Jalaun Superintendent of Police (SP), Iraj Raja. The SP stated that the constable was shot during the pursuit. According to an eye-witness who works as a guard at a dhaba on the national highway, the constable was on foot patrol when he spotted some motorcycle riders who looked suspicious. The constable shone a light on them and they responded by firing shots and fleeing. The constable pursued them but was allegedly ambushed and shot at close range.
