Sexual assault on 142 girls by Haryana school principal

A minimum of 142 female students have reported to authorities, confirming instances of sexual harassment by the recently apprehended school principal, the deputy commissioner of Jind district in Haryana revealed on Thursday. This update increases the count of victims in this disturbing incident from 60.

According to Jind DC Mohammad Imran Raza, 142 female students have provided testimony against Kartar Singh, the 56-year-old principal of the government girls school. This information was shared during proceedings with a committee led by a sub-divisional magistrate. Raza stated that a preliminary inquiry conducted by the committee found Singh prima facie guilty. The committee engaged with 390 girl students from classes 9th to 12th, and among them, 142 students have either directly or indirectly confirmed certain allegations against the principal.

School principal detained on sexual harassment charges

The deputy commissioner stated that the committee has proposed taking disciplinary measures against the accused principal. This action would be supplementary to the ongoing criminal proceedings initiated against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Disturbing particulars of the purported crime came to light on August 31 when students of the school penned a letter to President Droupadi Murmu, the Haryana governor, and the National Commission for Women, urging action against the school principal for the alleged sexual assault. Responding to this, the Haryana secondary education department suspended the principal on October 27.
