Protesting Himachal Truckers Call Hindenburg Report 'Godsend'

Adani Group’s Negotiators and Truckers in the hill state were in a deadlock over the freight charges of cement transported from Adani Group’s ACC plant at Barmana and Ambuja plant in Darlaghat. About 7,000 truckers were protesting against the Adani Group’s Dec. 15 decision to shut down the two cement plants, affecting their livelihoods.

The truckers failed to reach any resolution despite eight rounds of talks with negotiators of the world’s third richest person and turned to their deities to seek help. A group of truckers visited a revered Hindu temple in Darlaghat and offered traditional semolina sweets to the deity, as reported by Reuters. It so happened that Hindenburg Research released its report the next day and reports of the Adani group losing billions made the headlines.

The dispute was finally resolved on Feb. 20 with the truckers and Adani Group settling for a 10-12% reduction in rates. The Adani group has announced that it will resume operations in the two cement plants which have been shut for over two months.
