On Wednesday, an official announced that Siyaya, a three-year-old captive-reared cheetah who had been translocated to Kuno National Park in India, gave birth to four cubs in a soft predator-free enclosure. The news comes shortly after the death of a female cheetah named Sasha due to renal failure. The mother and cubs appear to be healthy, and officials plan to observe and protect them without interfering with the natural process. The birth of the cubs is being hailed as a significant moment for the team of Project Cheetah, which has been working to reintroduce the large carnivore to India. The park now has a total of 19 cheetahs, including four from Namibia in the wild, 12 from South Africa in quarantine, and three from Namibia in a soft enclosure. Another cheetah named Asha, who was recently released into the wild, is showing signs of being pregnant, but it will be confirmed after the birth of the cubs.
