In the Dal Lake of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, a massive fire that started on houseboats claimed the lives of three people. Near ghat number nine, the fire started early on Saturday morning. It is currently unknown to whom the body belongs. Five houseboats and their cottages were destroyed in a fire. Costing crores of rupees, the damage was severe. There is still no clear reason for the fire.
Upon receiving a call, Fire and Emergency Services Department officials reached the spot and started a rescue operation. Tourists were also rescued from the fire. The situation is now under control, and the fire service officials are investigating the source of the fire.
This incident comes right before the start of Kashmir's tourism season, where staying on houseboats is a popular activity. The fire has caused concern among tourists and locals alike. Additionally, the region has recently experienced snowfall in the higher reaches and heavy rains in the plains, leading to the closure of national highways connecting the valley with the rest of the country.
