Manipur violence sees no end as Union Minister's home burnt down

During the ethnic unrest, a crowd broke into RK Ranjan Singh's home in Kongba, Imphal, and set it on fire. This was reported by the Manipur administration on Thursday late at night. The incident didn't happen in the home where the union minister and his family were at the time.

“I am currently in Kerala for official work. Thankfully, nobody got injured last night at my Imphal home. The miscreants came with petrol bombs and damage has been done to the ground floor and first floor of my home,” Ranjan Singh told news agency ANI.

“It is very sad to see what is happening in my home state. I will still continue to appeal for peace. Those indulging in this kind of violence are absolutely inhuman,” he added

Two days after the sharpest escalation of violence in the state resulted in nine people being shot dead and another 10 being injured, a mob burned down two houses as skirmishes broke out between demonstrators and security officials in Imphal on Thursday.

On Thursday, Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated that the government is holding conversations at all levels and gave the assurance that those responsible for the violence would face consequences.
