Union Home Minister Amit Shah has scheduled an all-party meeting in New Delhi on June 24 to address the situation in Manipur, where sporadic violence has occurred since May 3. As per a tweet by a spokesperson from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah has summoned an all-party meeting on June 24th at 3 PM in New Delhi to deliberate on the situation in Manipur. The announcement followed a meeting between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the home minister earlier in the evening.
Sarma, who is also the convener of the North-East Democratic Alliance's (NEDA) Northeast chapter, had previously visited Imphal two weeks ago, where he met with Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and various political leaders. After a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organized on May 3 in the hill districts of Manipur to protest the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, violent clashes broke out. The conflict has resulted in approximately 120 fatalities and over 3,000 injuries. Last month, Amit Shah spent four days in the state, engaging with a diverse range of people in his efforts to restore peace in Manipur.
