The Manipur government has declared the entire state a 'disturbed area' under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) for a period of six months due to the prevailing law and order situation. The Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) is a law in India that grants special powers to the armed forces when they are operating in certain areas of the country. However, the AFSPA will not be implemented in areas under the jurisdiction of 19 specific police stations, including the capital, Imphal.

This decision comes in response to the ongoing unrest and violent activities by extremist and insurgent groups in Manipur. The AFSPA has been in operation in the state (excluding the Imphal Municipality area) since 2004. While there have been previous efforts to reduce the scope of AFSPA in Manipur, the state government has decided to maintain the status quo in light of the sensitive nature of the issue and the ongoing law and order challenges.
The situation in Manipur remains tense, and the government's decision to extend AFSPA's coverage reflects the complexities of addressing security concerns in the region.
