As of today, January 31, 2025, Jaipur Metro has implemented a fare increase, under which the minimum fare has become Rs8. JMRCㅡ Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation released the new fare list on Thursday and the fare hike was officially put into practice on Friday.

Passengers and tourists traveling by metro in Jaipur's walled city and outer areas will now have to pay more while smart card users can heave a sigh of relief as their discounts will remain intact.

Metro Travel Costs Updated: Fare Adjustments Explained

Inside the updated fare arrangement, passengers will now have to pay extra to travel to Pink City. A focal point of this fare surge is the increase in ticket prices on frequently traveled routes.

➤➤ The travel from Mansarovar to Chhoti Chaupar, which was initially accessible at a moderate cost, will now be available to passengers for Rs 30. Commuters traveling from 2 to 10 stations will have to pay an extra fare of Rs 4 to 8, however, smart card holders will have a discount of up to 10%.

➤➤ Just now passengers will need to pay a fare of Rs 10 (Rs6 in previous) for their journey up to 2 metro stations. The fare for a journey from 3 to 5 stations will be Rs 15 (Rs12 in previous) and for 6 to 8 stations it will be Rs 25 (Rs 18 in previous). Similarly, as the limit of stations increases, the fare per passenger will keep on increasing.

The fare hike has drawn mixed reactions from daily commuters. Some people understand the need to adjust rates to maintain metro services, but others express concerns about the rising costs of public transportation.

JMRC Justifies Fare Hike: Here’s Why

The Jaipur Metro authorities have outlined multiple factors behind the recent fare increase:

➛ Escalating Operational Expenses – Higher costs for maintenance, electricity, and staff wages have significantly impacted overall expenditure.

➛ Planned Network Expansion – With Jaipur Metro gearing up for further growth, additional funding is necessary for infrastructure development.

➛ Service Upgrades – To enhance the commuter experience, authorities are focusing on improving service frequency and efficiency.

Metro Upgrades & Expansion; What to Expect?

Hereby this fare revision action, Jaipur Metro intends to strike an adjustment between affordability and durability. The Metro transit is one of the most adapted and economical ways to travel across the city. And JMRC is hopeful that passengers will continue to choose metro services despite the fare adjustment.

Although the fare hike may impact daily commuters, officials assure that these enhancements will lead to a more efficient, faster, and well-connected metro network shortly.

The Metro in Jaipur runs from Mansarovar to Badi Chaupar, an area of 11.3 km. Its one-way route takes 26 minutes and it covers both the round-trip routes in 52 minutes.

What should you know is that about Rs 3149 crore was spent on the Jaipur Metro construction project, which lasted for 10 years and 2 months.
