The intense heat has begun to show its impact in Uttar Pradesh as early as April, with temperatures crossing 44 degrees Celsius in several districts. Heatwave conditions have started affecting daily life, raising serious concerns, especially for schoolchildren. In response, authorities have revised school timings to protect students from harsh sunlight and dehydration. The Meteorological Department has also indicated that there is little hope for immediate relief.
Severe Heat Tightens Grip on the State
Uttar Pradesh is currently witnessing extreme weather conditions, with temperatures reaching dangerous levels unusually early in the season. In many districts, the mercury has crossed 44 degrees Celsius, disrupting normal life. Scorching sunlight, hot winds, and dry conditions have made the situation worse. According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures are likely to rise further, with no immediate relief expected.
Banda Emerges as the Hottest City
On Tuesday, Banda recorded the highest temperature in the state at 44.2 degrees Celsius. Sultanpur followed with 43.4 degrees, while Prayagraj recorded 43.2 degrees Celsius. Jhansi and Hardoi also witnessed intense heat, each recording 42.5 degrees Celsius. The capital, Lucknow, was not spared either, with temperatures touching 40.2 degrees Celsius, which is above normal. Nighttime temperatures have also remained high, providing little respite.
Heatwave Alert and Public Advisory
Dry weather conditions combined with low humidity have intensified the heat across the state. The Meteorological Department has warned of heatwave conditions in several regions and advised people to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours. Citizens have been urged to take precautions and limit outdoor activities unless absolutely necessary.
School Timings Revised to Ensure Safety
Amid rising concerns, the government has taken a crucial step to safeguard schoolchildren. The timings of council-run schools under the Basic Education Board have been revised. As per the new directive, schools will now function from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM, minimizing students’ exposure to the harsh afternoon heat.
New Daily Schedule for Students and Staff
Under the revised schedule, morning prayers and yoga sessions will take place between 7:30 AM and 7:40 AM, followed by regular classes. A short lunch break has been scheduled from 10:00 AM to 10:15 AM. However, teachers and school staff will remain on campus until 1:30 PM to complete their academic responsibilities.
Authorities Order Immediate Implementation
The Director of Basic Education has issued instructions to Basic Education Officers across all districts to implement the revised timings with immediate effect. The move highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of children amid the ongoing heatwave.
