Goa CM: 90% Crimes Due To Migrant Workers, made Labour Cards

On 1st May, the occasion of Labour Day, the CM of Goa made a statement saying, “migrant labourers are the reason behind the 90% of crimes happening in Goa.” Goa is one of the famous tourist attractions in India, where we can see large numbers of foreigners. And in such places, crimes are happening so often because of migrant labourers. This is obviously a shameful thing and to avoid this, the Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, has taken an initiative. The government has made it compulsory for every migrant labourer working in Goa to have a labour card. These labourers conduct crimes and then run from the state, thus it becomes impossible to trace them due to lack of information. More than half of the labourers are from the states of Bihar and Uttarpradesh.

The government decided to tie up with two non-governmental organizations for the distribution of labour cards. The government will provide enrollment facilities online soon. The government will have all the necessary information of labourers working in Goa due to this facility.

In March, there were two incidents. One was an attack on a Dutch tourist and another was an assault on a Russian woman. Both crimes were done by migrant workers from Uttarakhand, Assam and Jharkhand. These increasing crimes will stop due to the implementation of the labour card idea.
