Amidst rising summer temperatures, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), which is responsible for ensuring food safety, will initiate a countrywide monitoring program targeting milk and milk products, which are among the most commonly adulterated items. This initiative will encompass the testing of various products such as milk, khoa, chhenna, paneer, ghee, butter, curd, and ice cream, both from organized and unorganized sectors. The decision to focus on milk for the surveillance is driven by its significant role in our food culture, whether consumed as a fresh beverage or in processed dairy forms. Milk is a valuable source of essential micronutrients and macronutrients, and people of all age groups incorporate milk or milk products into their daily diets," stated the FSSAI without specifying a date for the survey. India's overall milk production has witnessed a rise from 146.31 million tonnes in 2014-15 to 221.1 million tonnes in 2021-22, attributed to the implementation of various central government initiatives.
