On Thursday, the union home ministry announced revisions to the 2015 General Duty Cadre (Non-Gazetted) Recruiting Regulations for the Border Security Force (BSF), including the addition of 10% reservation for ex-Agniveers in the force.
The ministry lowered the upper age restriction for former Agniveers and exempted them from physical efficiency testing in a notification that was released on March 6.
It will be eased for up to three years for the remaining batch of ex-soldiers.
On June 14, 2022, the Agnipath initiative, which will replace the military's ten-year-old system of recruitment, was announced by India. It would reduce the age profile of the armed forces, ensure a fitter military, and produce a technically skillful war-fighting force capable of addressing future challenges.
The government notification said, “The upper age limit shall be relaxable up to five years for the candidates of the first batch of ex- Agniveers......Ten percent of the vacancies shall be reserved for Ex- Agniveers.”
