An SUV carrying an injured man on its roof drove through Delhi's heavily guarded VIP zone for a distance of at least three kilometres while other vehicles honked and tried to signal it to stop, without being intercepted by the police. The incident resulted in the death of one man who was thrown from the roof when the vehicle made a sharp turn, and his cousin was left severely injured. The incident was captured on video by a witness who stated that the SUV driver hit the two men on a scooter at the intersection of Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Tolstoy Marg. After the collision,  the SUV's roof was where one man ended up while the other was hurled a few feet away.  Rather than stopping to evaluate the situation, the SUV driver accelerated and continued driving with the injured man still on the roof. Mohammad Bilal, an eyewitness to the incident, pursued the vehicle on his scooter while recording the event, but his efforts to alert the SUV driver were unsuccessful.
