The Dalai Lama has apologized after being accused of inappropriate behavior for kissing a young boy on the lips and asking him to "suck his tongue" at a public event in India.
The collaboration, which occurred in late February at the Dalai Lama's sanctuary in Dharamshala, was gone to by around 100 youthful understudies who had recently moved on from the Indian M3M Establishment.
Tenzin Gyatso, the Dalai Lama, is the most revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism. Since 1959, when China annexed Tibet, he has been living in exile in India.
At the Kirti Monastery in Dharamshala, India, the Dalai Lama is dressed for the occasion.
In a video that has gone viral, one of the young male students approached a microphone at the event and inquired of the Dalai Lama, "Who will be the next reincarnation of the Dalai Lama?" Can we hug?”
The 87-year-old Dalai Lama instructed the youngster to approach the platform where he was seated. He can be heard saying, "first here," motioning to his cheek, after which the child kissed him and gave him a hug.
The Dalai Lama kept hold of the kid, saying "I think here too" and afterward established a kiss all the rage. " And suck my tongue,” the Dalai Lama then said, putting his tongue between his and the student's foreheads. The Dalai Lama laughed and pulled the boy into a second hug as the audience laughed. The boy quickly stuck his tongue out and moved away.
The spiritual leader then gave the boy a final hug and told him to look to those who bring about "peace and happiness" rather than "human beings who always kill other people."
Many people condemned the video as it spread across the internet, describing it as "inappropriate," "scandalous," and "disgusting." The controversy resulted in an apology from the Dalai Lama's office, which stated that his actions had been "innocent and playful."
It said in an explanation: " His Holiness wishes to apologize to the boy, his family, and his numerous international friends for any harm that his words may have caused.
“His holiness frequently teases people he meets in an innocent and playful manner, even in public and in front of cameras. He regrets the incident."
The Dalai Lama has been the subject of controversy before. His office apologized for his remarks in 2019 that the Dalai Lama should return as a woman because "she should be more attractive."
