Cyclone Biparjoy Update - IMF predicts extensive damage to Gujarat, thousands evacuated

The cyclone Bipajroy has developed into a very severe cyclonic storm and seen as a matter of concern in the areas where it could potentially affect. According to the reports the cyclone is expected to cross Saurashtra and Kutch, which is in between Pakistan’s Karachi and Gujarat’s Kutch. The cyclone is expected to cross over the port in Kutch, near Jakhau with the maximum wind speed of 145 kmph. This being said by the Indian Meteorological Department, the government of Gujarat has made moves to evacuate the people in the vulnerable areas as a precautionary measure. Schools, Ports in coastal areas have been temporarily closed until the cyclone passes.

According to the reports by the state government, 6827 civilians have been evacuated from the coastal districts of Gujarat to safer places. On one hand, the Prime Minister along with the Home Minister Amit Shah and other officials, has held a meeting to discuss the emergency preparedness of the cyclone and tackling its possible adversities as a whole.

 A deeply saddening incident has taken place in Rajkot, as a result of the severe monsoon winds caused by the cyclone, Varsha Bavaliya, from Chhasiya village is a victim of the incident, where a peepal tree fell on her due to the gusty winds in that area. However the doctors were unable to save her life.
