An earthquake of 3.9 magnitude happens in the Bay of Bengal early on Monday morning, according to the National Centre for Seismology. Under the Bay of Bengal, it has an epicentre not far from Myanmar. The earthquake's epicentre lay at latitude 15.32 and longitude 92.84. It was 10 kilometres below the surface in India's Bay of Bengal. According to a tweet by NCS, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck India's Bay of Bengal on June 5, 2023, at 7:40 IST.
As of yet, no casualties have been reported. Notably, the region has seen at least three earthquakes in the last seven months. The region has previously experienced an earthquake of a magnitude of 4.5 on January 1, 2023. The earthquake was felt for the first time at a depth of 36 kilometres. It was felt around 10:57 am on the first day of the new year. On the same day, Jhajjar, Haryana, had a second earthquake with a Richter magnitude of 3.8 at 1:19 am.
A 5.1 on the Richter scale earthquake struck the Bay of Bengal on December 5 of last year. The earthquake occurred in the Bay of Bengal at around 8:32 am, at a depth of 10 km. This earthquake occurred close to Odisha; Puri in the east and Bhubaneswar in the east-southeast were both 421 km and 434 km distant from the epicentre, respectively. At that moment, Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh felt the tremor.
