Army does a flag march to control violence in Manipur, around 4,000 people shifted

According to a defence spokesperson, the Army and Assam Rifles have been dispatched to Manipur to manage the situation following violence during a tribal protest. As per a defence spokesperson, around 4,000 individuals have been rescued by the forces from the areas affected by violence and have been provided shelter. Further, more people are being moved to safer locations. The Army and Assam Rifles were called in, for the help of the state police, and managed to control the violence The spokesperson added that flag marches are being conducted to maintain control over the situation. The violence occurred during the 'Tribal Solidarity March' organized by ATSUM to protest the demand for ST status by non-tribal Meiteis in the Imphal Valley.

The rally witnessed the participation of thousands of protesters, during which conflicts between tribals and non-tribals erupted, as per a senior police officer. As a result of the situation, curfew was enforced in Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, Jiribam, and Bishnupur districts with a majority of non-tribal residents, as well as Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and Tengnoupal districts with a majority of tribal residents. Additionally, mobile internet services have been suspended throughout the state for a duration of five days.
