On April 18, 2023, Apple launched its inaugural retail store in India at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. The opening drew a large number of fans and customers, and to commemorate the occasion, Apple shared images of the enthusiastic crowd that gathered. The inauguration was attended by Apple CEO Tim Cook, who also met with prominent figures from around the country, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Deputy IT Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar.
The store opening featured a performance by a local band and attracted approximately 300 people, some of whom had travelled from different parts of India and even camped overnight to secure a spot in line. The first customer to purchase a product at the store also became the first-ever customer in an Indian retail store. Attendees were spotted taking selfies with their new Apple devices, and some brought along their old Apple devices, hoping to get Cook's autograph. Apple is scheduled to open its second store, Apple Saket, in New Delhi later this week.
