Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan Charged for Negligent Driving for Stunt On Car Roof

After a video of actor-politician Pawan Kalyan sitting on the roof of a speeding automobile leaked the week before, an FIR was lodged against him for rash driving and risking the lives and security of others.

The leader of the Jana Sena Party (JSP), who was being followed by a parade of vehicles, was seen comfortably lying on the SUV's rooftop with his legs out as the automobile sped forward. Another individual was recording the actor-politician from a potentially attractive viewpoint and clung dangerously to the automobile.

The Tadepalli police have charged Pawan Kalyan with violating Indian Penal Code sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public street) and 336 (risking the life or personal safety of others).

In the FIR filed on Friday, the complainant, P Siva Kumar, claimed that his bike skidded out of hand, causing him to fall to the ground. He asked the police to take action against the politician-actor, his chauffeur, and the other participants in the risky performance.

The FIR wrote: "Even as Mr Pawan Kumar was seated on the car, the driver drove it in a rash and negligent manner at high speed, followed by other vehicles." The Jana Sena Party (JSP) president visited the village of Ippatam in the Andhra Pradesh state's Guntur region, and a video of that trip quickly became popular on social media. Mr. Kalyan's visit was to see the residents whose homes apparently had been destroyed for road widening.

What garnered more attention, was the stunt of the actor-politician who rode on the speeding car's roof while surrounded on all sides by security guards and followers and people dangerously hanging around it.

The video also shows many vehicles trailing the celebrity. The video resembles a scene right out of a film. People responded to the video on social media as it gained popularity.

The Motor Vehicle Act specifies that reckless driving can result in a monetary penalty of up to INR 5000. A fine of Rs 20,000 is imposed for overcrowding an automobile, which in Pawan Kalyan's instance was unquestionably illegal. The police immediately stopped Mr. Kalyan's vehicle at the Mangalagiri JSP branch. The party leader chose to ride on the top of his car to the area after receiving permission from the police.

Many criticized Pawan Kalyan's action and asked to explain whether it was appropriate for him to encourage reckless driving while disregarding safety as a political figure.
