In the midst of heightened violence in Manipur, a group of individuals made an attempt to approach the unoccupied residence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday night. This occurred despite the presence of security measures and a curfew in place within Imphal Valley. Presently, the situation in Imphal Valley is characterized by a sense of calm mixed with underlying tension.
The district magistrate has kindly granted some relaxation in the curfew restrictions in Imphal East. Residents are now permitted to leave their homes between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. on September 29. However, security forces effectively prevented a large gathering from reaching the residence by using tear gas shells, ensuring safety measures were in place.
In light of the reports indicating that militants were instigating the mob, Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Balwal, a highly skilled professional in handling terrorism-related cases, has been called back to Manipur promptly. Consequently, he will be assigned a new role within the state.
The senior officers of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) convened a meeting at Manipur Police Headquarters to address the current law and order situation.
The two groups made their way towards the Prime Minister's team's residence, but they were politely halted at a distance of approximately 100-150 meters. To ensure the protesters' visibility was limited, authorities made the decision to temporarily cut off power in the area. Furthermore, extra barricades were strategically positioned near the residence, and some protesters resorted to burning tires on a nearby road. Although an ambulance was present, there have been no reports of any injuries thus far.
The Manipur government has established a committee to examine grievances regarding the purportedly excessive employment of force by security forces against demonstrators, particularly students, in the preceding two days.
The security forces kindly requested to use only necessary force and urged the students to cooperate in order to uphold peace. They emphasized that individuals who exploit the situation will be firmly dealt with.
Over 20 MPs from Manipur, currently in Delhi, have kindly requested the Center to promptly address the issue of the abduction and tragic demise of two youths in the state. Additionally, they humbly appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to expedite the CBI investigation.

Since May 3, an unfortunate number of over 180 individuals have lost their lives, with several others experiencing injuries, as a result of ethnic violence in Manipur. The unrest initially commenced with a 'Tribal Unity March' organized in opposition to the Meitei community's request for Scheduled Tribe status. The Meiteis account for 53% of the population, primarily residing in the Imphal valley, while the remaining 40% is constituted by various tribes such as the Nagas and Kukis, predominantly residing in the hill districts.
