A massive fire destroys a dyeing unit in Ludhiana

On Thursday, a major fire at a dyeing facility on Tajpur Road started, damaging machinery and raw materials worth crores of rupees and engulfing the entire region in toxic smoke plumes. The fire started in the Hinglaj Processors' storage room in Jagdish Pura and quickly spread throughout the entire building. Firefighters had a difficult time putting out the flames because of the huge quantity of raw polyester, oil, and chemicals kept in the structure.

A thick cloud of smoke could be seen as far away as Samrala Chowk due to the fire's severity. There were roughly 150 workers inside the unit at the time of the event. No human injuries have been noted. At 4:20 pm, the incident was reported to the fire department, and at 6:30 pm, it was put out. The fire brigade's 12 fire tenders were called into action. Because the fire was put out before it could spread to the boiling unit that was holding flammable materials, a serious catastrophe was avoided.

The fire also caused damage to the two-story building's structure. According to fire officials, firefighters had to drill multiple holes in the walls to allow air to enter and aid the fire brigade in putting out the flames because the structure lacked any ventilation outlets. The electricity supply to the entire neighbourhood was instantly turned off and wasn't restored for two hours due to the dense population and number of industrial units in the vicinity of the unit.

The unit's owner, Pawan Sehgal, claimed that he was performing ordinary office tasks when he noticed flames shooting out of the structure, prompting all of the employees to flee at once. The building's second level had previously experienced a minor fire incident that, according to the family, was quickly put out. The unit had no provisions for water supply, according to subfire officer Atish Rai. He continued that none of the fire safety procedures had been followed by the industrial unit. According to the fire brigade officials, the owner has been told not to allow anyone to approach the structure for a few hours because there is a chance that it will fall. The unit's location on the busy main Tajpur Road meant that one side of the road was blocked to traffic, causing lengthy backups. According to fire officials, traffic made it difficult for fire tenders to arrive at the location quickly after refuelling.
