4 arrested in Organ trafficking racket in Vijaywada

The West Zone police have detained four people, including two women, for attempting to take kidneys from two people and sell them to customers by using fictitious family certificates. K. Karthik, his wife Nagamani, V. Kanaka Mahalakshmi, and Tammisetti Venkaiah were named as the defendants. They were given the assignment to locate kidney donors by Babu Rao, who is presently on the run. When Mahalakshmi failed to locate a suitable donor, the accused agreed to give her one lakh rupees. Mahalakshmi originally discovered two people who were unsuitable for donation but eventually discovered G. Chinna, a woman who was willing to sell her kidney.

For the kidney transplantation application, the accused provided phoney family and residency credentials; nevertheless, the certificates were found to be phoney. The suspects were taken into custody once the police were notified. The estimated value of the total transaction was Rs. 29 lakh. By promising that all costs would be covered, the defendants persuaded weak women to sell their kidneys. Additionally, the suspects stole Rs. 3.5 lakh from one customer for medical testing. In another instance, Satyavathi got in touch with Karthik and Nagamani, looking for a kidney donor. They went to their next-door neighbour, Venkaiah, who persuaded his wife to sell her kidney in exchange for a sizable sum of money. A number of cases have been filed against the accused under the Indian Penal Code and the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act.
