Begusarai Bridge collapses before it's inauguration

Before it was officially launched on December 18, 2022, in the Begusarai district of Bihar, a portion of the bridge collapsed. Due to the lack of an approach road, the bridge that was constructed under the Chief Minister's NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) project wasn't able to be inaugurated.

The 206-meter-long bridge that spans the Budhi Gandak between Aaakriti Tola Chowki and Bishanpur in the Begusarai district was constructed in 2017 at a cost of much more than 13 crores, although on Sunday, the front section of the bridge between columns number 2-3 collapsed and plummeted into the river. However, the accident did not result in any injuries.

A break was finally found in the bridge's front side, but officials who should have repaired it rued the people and took no action. Under the direction of the chief minister, NABARD, the bridge was built. The bridge's construction began in February 2016 and was completed in August of the following year. Due to the absence of an approach road, the bridge was never originally inaugurated, but reports claimed that tractors and other large vehicles occasionally cross it.

"A few days ago, a JCB machine went over the bridge, and even then, a section of the bridge has been lumped." Thankfully, there were no casualties when it fell today, a police officer from Sahebpur Kamal police station informed The Hindu on condition of anonymity. This bridge's construction was done with serious abnormalities. It collapsed in the morning, but no one was harmed since tractors were passing over the road even though it hadn't been officially opened, according to Satan and Sambuddha, alias Lallan Yadav, a local Rashtriya Janata Dal MLA.

A 9 .1 kilometer Sattarghat bridge in Gopalganj district that cost 263.47 crores was also partially damaged in July 2020, 29 days after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had dedicated it.

"The bridge, which cost 263 crores and took eight years to build, collapsed in just 29 days. Nitish Kumar, the father of institutionalized corruption, would not comment on this or remove his dishonest road minister from office. Tejashwi Yadav, the then-head of the opposition and a leader of the RJD, had tweeted, "It's plundering all throughout Bihar."

Nitish Kumar cut ties with the BJP in August 2022 and created a mahagathbandhan government in Bihar with the RJD and a number of other parties. Although Mr. Yadav is now the deputy chief minister of the state, he elected not to tweet about the bridge collapse on Sunday in Sahebpur Kalam, Begusarai district.
