WHO points 7 India-made syrups for causing 300 deaths globally

Recent deaths in Cameroon in Africa led the World Health Organization (WHO) to probe into an investigation. It is said by WHO that an investigation related to contaminated drugs showed India as one of the reasons behind these deaths. WHO kicked off 7 made-in-India syrups which caused deaths in several parts of the world.

A total of 20 toxic medicinal syrups supplied by India and Indonesia in the world led to the deaths of 200-300 people. Through an investigation, it was clear that there were two toxic substances found in syrups, Dthylene Glycol and Diethylene Glycol.

Around 60 children from the Gambia and 20 from Uzbekistan died due to the intake of these syrups. And 12 deaths in Cameroon in Africa added to the total number of deaths since last year. Not only WHO but the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. and Gambian Health Authorities also interlinked this matter with Indian drugs.

Indian pharmaceutical companies Marion Biotech, QP Pharma Chem and Maiden Pharmaceuticals are the companies which are at the root of the whole issue. WHO will undergo a thorough investigation. But now the Indian Health Ministry will check quality control of all exports.
