A rare neurological condition known as Guillain-Barre syndrome occurs when the body's immune system attacks the nerves. It begins with tingling and weakness in the hands and feet, but it can spread quickly and cause the entire body to become paralyzed. The majority of those who have this condition require hospitalization for treatment.
While the precise cause of the condition is still unknown, reports indicated that two-thirds of patients displayed symptoms of an infection in the six weeks prior, including Covid-19, gastrointestinal infection, or Zika virus.
Signs and symptoms of Guillain-Barre syndrome are, tingling in the hands, feet, ankles, wrists, and occasionally even the arms and face. The weakening of the legs spreads and affects the upper body. In some circumstances, the inability to climb stairs or walk can also be seen.
Difficulty speaking, chewing, or swallowing; double vision; or difficulty moving the eyes. Severe discomfort that often gets worse at night and may feel achy, shooting, or cramp-like. Rapid heartbeat, low or high blood pressure, difficulties breathing, and problems controlling bladder and bowel movements. The most extreme situations could result in paralysis.
