Maharashtra: Govt. hospitals to give free medical services from 15 August

The Maharashtra government announced on Thursday that starting on August 15 patients will receive free treatment at all hospitals run by the public health department.

The state Cabinet unanimously approved the decision during its meeting on Thursday night, according to state Public Health Minister Tanaji Sawant.

Under the public health department of Maharashtra, there are 2,418 medical facilities. Primary health care clinics, rural hospitals, women's hospitals, district civil hospitals, sub-district hospitals, super specialty hospitals, and cancer hospitals, this decision will apply to these all. 

Approximately 2.55 crore people receive medical care in these hospitals every year, according to the government's data.

In accordance with the Cabinet note, Article 21 of the Constitution gives everyone the right to health, and it is the state's duty to guarantee that all medical services are accessible to the public.
