Health Test in 30min: IIT Alumni Develops Smartphone Based Health Check Kits

Anurag Meena, Nikunj Malpani, and Pratik Lodha are three alumni of the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B), who has devised a smartphone-based health test kit that uses a urine sample and provides results in 30 seconds. The three former students founded the health-related start-up NeoDocs.

An individual must briefly dip a card included in the test kit into urine before taking a picture of it using the NeoDocs app on their phone, according to a report by the news agency PTI.  “The photo gets uploaded on our cloud server, where an algorithm uses computer vision to scan the card and gives results within 30 seconds,” said Manasvi Shah, strategic partnerships manager of the startup.

According to Dr. Harshal Nehete, the health officer for Nashik Zilla Parishad, they have signed an MoU with NeoDocs to use these quick test kits at their public health centers (PHCs) in Trimbak taluka.
Dr. Nehete added, “We have been using these instant tests at seven of our PHCs for the antenatal care of mothers. We are also using their UTI (urinary tract infection) test kits and wellness kits”.
The test kit was introduced by NeoDocs during an expo at the latest Indian Science Congress in Nagpur. One of the startup's founders, Nikunj Malpani, claimed that the Covid lockdown made them realize the utility of diagnostics and the significance of quantifying health.
