Hair straightening could cause cancer? The National Institutes of Health claims that women who frequently straighten their hair have a higher risk of developing uterine cancer. Uterine cancer is a type of cancer which starts building in the uterus.
Based on a study, women who use hair straightening products or treatments quite often four times annually—have a higher risk of developing uterine cancer than other women. According to the National Institutes of Health, 33,497 women between the ages of 35 and 75 who participated in the Sister Study were monitored for 11 years to determine the risk factors for both uterine and breast cancer.
During this monitoring process, 378 women with uterine cancer were discovered. There is a huge problem here that both men and women are unaware of. Except during the monthly cycle, abnormal vaginal bleeding is the main sign of uterine cancer.
Uterine cancer affects 3 out of every 100 women. Contrary to other types of cancer, uterine cancer is a rare type that affects women and doubles every two years. This kind of speed is very concerning said lead author Alexandra White, PhD, who is the head of the NIEHS Environment and Cancer Epidemiology group in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.
60% of women affected by this cancer in the previous year were Black women, according to a study by the National Institutes of Health. the more frequently they utilise these hair-straightening tools the more danger they are in. The doctors have started educating people, particularly women, with the aid of this study.
But the most important part should be played by, salon owners, and hair stylers who are approaching their customers with these chemically equipped products. They need to stop selling these harmful products in the name of better hair growth, structure and so on.
As a customer, we need to increase our knowledge and educate ourselves and others. Covid has taught us so many things about choosing the right product and eating healthy food, staying away from chemical products and adopting a healthy lifestyle.
We frequently make incorrect decisions in the name of fashion. Women today are more influenced by social interactions and public perception. The following of trends is receiving more of our attention, while our overall health is being completely disregarded.
Based on the study, women who use chemical products irregularly have a 1.64% risk of developing uterine cancer by the age of 70. However, those who consistently allow chemicals into their lives have a risk factor of 4.05%.
It is after all health over everything else, right?
