Rajasthan: The district administration has become alert after the dead bodies of seven Kurjan birds were found in Jaisalmer. Due to the enabling of bird flu in birds, Animal Husbandry and the Forest Department teams brought down the ponds in the district and took stock of the parameters. Furthermore, flocks of migratory birds are also being watched over. An official declared the test report received from a Bhopal-based laboratory on Wednesday revealed that the demoiselle crane recently found dead in Jaisalmer had died of bird flu.
The idyllic city of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, esteemed for its golden arid and rich cultural backgrounds, has recently been in dispersion through concerns over an apparent explosion of bird flu. The scare was sparked when seven birds were found dead near local ponds, following which authorities immediately swung into action to investigate the cause of the deaths.
The situation
The abrupt discovery of lethal birds in Jaisalmer has aroused apprehensiveness among the community and authorities. The carcasses were confirmed near ponds, a common array spot for birds, raising concerns about the potential circulation of avian influenza, commonly considered to be bird flu. Bird flu (an extremely contagious evil disease) affects birds and can, in rare instances, make its way to humans. Incidents like this not only put at risk to environmental health but also undermine the local ecosystem and economy, especially in a tourist hub like Jaisalmer.
During the phenomenon, the Sarpanch and village development officers were informed. Apart from them, Development Officer Harisingh Detha, Forest Officer Lalit Charan, Sudamaram, Chanansingh, Pawan Goyal of the Animal Husbandry Department, Swaroop Singh, Chhodiya Sarpanch, and Sumersingh Sawanta were present.
Officialdom switch to action:
In the wake of the discovery, local authorities have embarked on an investigation to figure out the reason for the death of the birds. Veterinary teams are carrying out intensive inspections of the deprived regions including ponds and their adjoining locations. Samples of dead birds are being collected and sent to special laboratories for testing to confirm the possibility of avian influenza. In addition, attempts are underway to sanitize the affected areas for deterrence purposes of the allocated spread of the infection.

Bird flu, which is caused by the H5N1 virus mutually diverse strains, is an animal disease communicable to human in certain situations. Whereas human infection is rare, the ability of the virus to mutate creates a significant risk of uprisings.
Symptoms in birds implicate respiratory distress, lethargy, and sudden death, even though in human subjects, it can cause fever, cough, and severe pulmonary difficulties.
Fallout on Indigenous residents:
This news has made the residents of Jaisalmer restless. The fear of a bird flu outbreak could be economically damaging for this city which depends on tourism. If the situation deteriorates, tourists may shy away from visiting the region as local businesses and livelihoods are affected. Furthermore, if preventive measures are not implemented, the region’s poultry industry—a vital component of the internal economy—could also be at hazard.
