The Majestic Princess cruise ship has docked in Sydney after its 12-day trip to New Zealand. The ship is carrying 800 Covid Positive patients, who were detected with infection in the middle of the voyage. It had more than 3000 guests and at least 1300 crew members. Among the infected members, most of them were guests.
While addressing the press at circular quay, where the ship docked, Carnival Australian President Marguerite Fitzgerald said that they saw the rise in cases halfway and most of the guests had mild symptoms or were asymptomatic and they all were isolated in their rooms. Fitzgerald further said that they were preparing for it in advance and detected the outbreak of the virus halfway through the voyage when the ship visited Auckland on Tuesday . They are now managing incidences of Covid -19 and working with NSW( New South Wales) along with the ship's medical team.
Further authorities have been following the protocol and all guests have undertaken rapid antigen tests in the past 24 hours and the result of which determined how they will exit the ship. All the guests will be masked and passengers who have tested negative will be allowed to leave the ship first .Passengers with positive test will leave through a separate following the safety norms.
The outbreak of the virus has been compared with a case three years ago of Ruby Princess cruise ship where 914 people were tested positive for Covid -19 and 28 people died. When asked about the Ruby cruise Fitzgerald said that that was three years ago and since then the community has learned a lot.
The outbreak occurred when Australia has warned the people of the fourth wave of Covid -19. The government has asked the residents to wear a mask in health facilities, indoors where social distancing is hard and on public transport. They are also advised to stay updated with their vaccination and take rapid antigen test every two days if someone is covid-positive in their house. The country has seen rise in the cases from 12,450 to 19,800.
Similar case of outburst of virus has been seen in China.After the restrictions were lifted there was a rapid increase in the number of cases from 11,323 to 14,288 on the very day.These cases were found in the capital ,Beijing in which 1,675 cases were symptomatic and the rest were asymptomatic. Many parts of the world are witnessing the upsurge in covid-19 cases, meanwhile, India has 0.3 % of the total cases.The national recovery rate of the country has increased to 98.78%.
