A diarrhoea outbreak hits two Mohali villages, Punjab; 126 fall sick

A total of 126 diarrhoea cases have been registered in the Mohali district of Punjab. Civic doctor Mahesh Kumar Ahuja said that 47 are from Badmajra and 79 from Balongi village.

A contaminated source has not been found yet but the PGIMER, Chandigarh team and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Medical Science, Mohali has collected samples of water sources from villages as well as samples of tap water from some houses. 

District administration has cut off the water supply and water has been supplied through tankers to villagers. To provide appropriate health services for villagers, health camps have been made available in villages. Through this camp, Gharuan's senior medical officer, Dr. Pal Kaur is providing free medicine to patients. Health workers are distributing Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) to affected families. 

In this ongoing chain of diarrhoea cases, three patients of cholera have been found in the district. Dr. Ahuja has advised people to drink boiled water only.
