Menstruation and periods are taboo in many countries including India. Such taboos severely impact girls’ and women's emotional and mental state, lifestyle, and most importantly, health. Recently, Navya Naveli Nanda, daughter of Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda mentions it to be a sign of progress as she discussed menstruation on a public forum in the presence of her grandfather Amitabh Bachchan. Both of them shared the screen to talk openly about sexual and reproductive health.

Change always begins at home. Women should feel comfortable talking about their own bodies before going out and talking about them. Navya who’s a mental health advocate as well as an entrepreneur feels grateful to grow up in a house where she felt comfortable having these kinds of conversations which continue to be taboo otherwise. The new age Navya attended the telethon and discussed women's health, whereas other various actors just have been part of the show. At the NDTV event, Big B too made a statement calling menstruation “a sign of recreation”. Navya stated that it is not something that one should be ashamed of or shy away from. According to her, it has been a taboo for a really long time but there has also been progress. The young diva noted that she is sitting on a stage talking about periods with her grandfather and that in itself is a sign of progress.

The fact that they are sitting on a platform today with many people watching them and having an open conversation about menstruation itself shows that we have progressed, not just as women but as a country, Navya said in the forum.
Navya co-founded an online healthcare portal for women, named Aara Health, in 2020. The organisation is described as ‘a secure, non-judgmental, and trustworthy virtual healthcare platform for women.’ Navya also started a campaign Project Naveli, through which she aims to fight gender inequality.
