'12th Fail' goes to Oscars, Vikrant Massey Confirms

Vikrant Massey known for his roles in Mirzapur, Chapaak and Haseen Dilruba, recently confirmed just before his appearance on Sahitya AajTak 2023 that his latest release ‘12th Fail', directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra which starred Massey in a lead role has been submitted for the Oscars 2024 as an independent nomination.

As a sleeper Hit, The Film is critically acclaimed as one of this year's standout Bollywood productions. It is a biographical drama film, an adaptation of Anurag Pathak's novel, exploring the life journey of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and IRS officer Shraddha Joshi. The film was released on October 27 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, the film features Vikrant Massey as Manoj and Medha Shankar as the female lead.

12th fail, that is submitted to Oscars 2024, is a biographical drama film, an adaptation of Anurag Pathak's novel.

Massey, in an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, praised his collaboration with Vidhu Vinod Chopra, describing it as his best working experience and highlighting Chopra's mentorship.

Currently enjoying the film's success, Massey expressed gratitude for the positive response it received at the box office. Despite being a central figure in the film, he credited the success to the entire cast, stating, “My heart is full. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. When people walked out [of the theatre], they thanked us for making the film, and that’s what matters most."

Acknowledging the pressure on him for the film's performance, Massey emphasized the collective effort, saying, “I don’t think the film only did well because of me, the cast was equally responsible. The film’s story was bigger than anyone.”

Massey, in conversation with Rahul Kanwal on Sahitya AajTak, shared his journey and disclosed that he joined the film industry at 15 to support his father with college fees. Beginning in television, Massey, a trained dancer under Shiamak Davar, showcased his skills on stage.

During the discussion, he expressed gratitude and dedicated an Instagram post to IPS Manoj Sharma, the real-life inspiration for his character, expressing a desire to make him proud someday.
