USA's R'Bonney Gabriel is the New Miss Universe, Harnaaz Sandhu trips while crowning her

On Saturday night, R'Bonney Gabriel from the United States has crowned the 71st Miss Universe, beating out 83 other contestants from around the world. The pageant was held in New Orleans, Louisiana, with 84 women from around the world competing for the crown.

During the crowning ceremony, Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu lost her balance and tripped while crowning Gabriel, creating a hilarious moment for the audience. The two contestants laughed it off and embraced, with Gabriel consoling her fellow contestant.

Gabriel is the first Filipino-American to win Miss USA and is a model, fashion designer, and sewing instructor who prioritizes the environment in her work.

R'Bonney Gabriel from the United States has crowned the 71st Miss Universe on Saturday night. She is the first Filipino-American candidate to win the Miss Universe title. She is a fashion designer, model, and sewing instructor. 

She graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in Fashion Design and a minor in Fiber.  She is the CEO of her own sustainable clothing line, R'Bonney Nola. She is the lead sewing instructor at Magpies & Peacock, a Houston-based non-profit design house known for its dedication to sustainability and community impact. 

Miss Universe

She teaches sewing classes to women who were victims of human trafficking and domestic violence. She is a high-school volleyball player who pivoted to fashion and has been sewing for 13 years. She collaborated with Filipino designers for her ensembles in the pageant. 

She said her mission is “for women and young girls to see themselves in her and feel inspired to conquer their goals by owning who they are.”.
