Hollywood's heartthrobs, the very beautiful and very famous, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been tangled in a very messy court battle, ever since Angelina filed a divorce from Brad in September 2016. In 2005, the two fell for each other while shooting for the film Mr and Mrs Smith. But their relationship during that time faced a lot of controversies because Brad was already married to Jennifer Aniston at the time. Angelina and Pitt announced their engagement in April 2012. And got married in 2014. After 11 years of being together and 2 years of matrimonial pursuit, the couple then decided to separate.
According to sources, the reason why Jolie wanted to move out of the marriage was for the health of her family. Jolie adopted her first child Maddox Chivan back in 2002 from an orphanage in Cambodia. Three years later, she also brought in Zahara Marley, a baby born in Ethiopia. Pitt not only adopted the earlier children of Jolie but also decided to expand their brood with four more children - daughter Shiloh Nouvel, adopted son Pax Thien, and twins Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline.
Brad Pitt reacted to this reason with a comment that he was very saddened by this but what matters the most is the well-being of their children. In 2016, Jolie filed a divorce from Pitt, citing the differences between the two and also demanding full custody of their six children, but asked the judge to grant Pitt visiting rights so that the family remains in touch. When they made this news public, the couple had to face a lot of controversies and questions but did not give any extra comments and just said that this decision was made for the betterment of their children. During this time Pitt also released a public press statement asking the press to give their children the space they deserve. Speculations have been going around that the couple fought a lot over years, disagreed about parenting, and also had fights over schedules and politics.
On 22nd September 2016, the actor hired a lawyer named, Lance Spiegel to handle his case. On 30th September 2016, the couple reached a temporary custody agreement, according to which Jolie would get custody of the children and Pitt will have full visiting rights. Although his first visit will be monitored by a therapist who would then confirm if he can meet the kids without any supervision in the future. The family had to attend various therapy sessions and Bradd had to go through multiple drug and alcohol tests. But later he also demanded joint custody of their children.
The couple has been in dispute about a French home and winery that they co-owned and allegations have been levelled on various fronts including abuse against Pitt in various court filings. One of them reported by the media recently states that on a 2016 flight, Brad Pitt grabbed Angelina by the head and shook her then choked one of their children and struck another when they tried to defend her. It also states that at one point “he poured beer on Jolie; at another, he poured beer and red wine on the children.” Federal authorities investigated the incident but did not press criminal charges post which, Jolie decided to file for a divorce. Pitt's lawyers of course put out a statement on the actor's behalf that while Pitt had accepted responsibility for some things in his past he would not accept responsibility for things he did not do.
Jolie has maintained that during this whole time people have taken advantage of her silence, and Jolie and her children have seen a lot of lies about themselves in the media, but they know their own truth. Though the couple is not together anymore and does not have any plans to reconcile, they have reached a stage where both of them want to work together to raise their children, and any communication between them is regarding their children and their needs. How true that is with regards to the unprecedented attention that the couple has been generating in the media over a winery is only for time to see.
