Taylor Swift seeks legal action against student who tracks her Jet

Jack Sweeney, a Florida college student known for tracking celebrities' private jet travels on social media, reportedly faces legal action from Taylor Swift's attorneys. Swift's legal team has threatened to take legal action against Sweeney for tracking the pop star's private jet movements and those of other celebrities.

Notably, Sweeney is the same person who famously sparked Elon Musk's interest by tracking his jet travels online. In December 2022, Elon Musk took down Sweeney's X (formerly known as Twitter) account with the username "@ElonJet" due to security concerns for himself and his family. To track public figures' jet use and carbon footprints, he uses publicly available data from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as well as broadcast aircraft signals.

Swift's attorney accused Sweeney of "stalking and harassing behaviour" in December after he tracked Swift's jet activity. "While this may be a game for you, or an avenue that you hope will earn you wealth or fame, it is a life-or-death matter for our Client," attorney Katie Wright Morrone wrote in the letter, according to The Guardian. Ms Morrone went on to say that there was "no legitimate interest in or public need for this information, other than to stalk, harass, and exert dominion and control".

According to CNN, the letter accuses the college student of disregarding others' public safety "in exchange for public attention and requests for financial gain". It even refers to a CNN article in which Musk offers Sweeney $5,000 to delete the Twitter account that tracks his jet.

The letter states that it is a "life-or-death matter" for Swift, who has dealt with stalkers and others who want to harm her since she was a teenager. It also states that there are "many public cases" of people who have come to the pop star's house, armed with weapons and ammunition, and "attempted to harm her". According to the letter, sharing Swift's location information gives these bad actors "a roadmap to carry out their plans".

Taylor Swift's attorney stated that if Sweeney continues to publish information about their client's jet travels, "she will have no choice but to pursue any legal remedies available to her".
