SRK to headline opening ceremony of Women's Premier League in Bengaluru

The eagerly anticipated Women's Premier League 2024 is set to commence with a spectacular opening ceremony titled 'Cricket ka Queendom' at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM IST, the event will be broadcast live in India.

Star-Studded Performances

The opening ceremony promises to be a star-studded affair with Bollywood icons set to grace the stage. Leading the lineup is Shah Rukh Khan, popularly known as King Khan or SRK, who will enthral the 32,000-capacity crowd. Apart from his Bollywood fame, SRK is also the proud owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

Joining him will be a host of talented performers from the film industry, including Shahid Kapoor, Tiger Shroff, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, and Kartik Aaryan, all renowned for their dancing prowess. Last year's ceremony featured performances by Sidharth Malhotra's wife Kiara Advani, Kriti Sanon, and singer AP Dhillon.

 

Exciting Matchups

Following the ceremony, the WPL 2024 will kick off with a thrilling encounter between defending champions Mumbai Indians, led by Indian T20 cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur, and last year's finalists Delhi Capitals. The tournament will also feature Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz, rounding out the five-team competition.

A total of 22 matches will be played in this second season of WPL, with all games scheduled until March 4 taking place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi will host the remaining matches, culminating in the final on March 17.

 

Detailed Schedule

The Women’s Premier League 2024 will run from February 23 to March 17, with Bengaluru and Delhi serving as host cities. The tournament will showcase a total of five teams, with Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz competing for the title. Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium will host matches until March 4, with the Arun Jaitley Stadium taking over for the remainder of the tournament.

The league format includes 22 matches, featuring an eliminator and the final. The team leading the points table will secure a direct spot in the final, while the second and third-placed teams will face off in the eliminator to determine the final's second contender. Matches are scheduled for 7:30 PM IST, with one game per day until the league stage concludes.
