Squid Game season 2 was recently released on 26th December on Netflix platform.The first season was released three years ago and the last episode of the season left the viewers on a shocking note. Gi-hun won the squid game and Sang-woo killed himself after being defeated. The awaited continuation of the season was worth watching as it continues the idea of the desperate competitors playing the violent games.
What Happens in Squid Game Season 2?
Squid Game season 2 follow up the story of Gi-hun’s life, after he won the final game of Squid Game in first season. Gi-hun plans to find out who is behind the Squid Game and decides to shut down the organisation,to stop these deadly games.
After two years of intense search operation, he eventually hunts down the recruiter, which lands him back in the Squid Game.
Meanwhile, detective Jun-ho, who survived his brother's betrayal, tries to track down the island. He crosses paths with Gi-won, who is also on a similar mission. Gi-hun, aka player number 456, becomes part of the Squid Games again, intending to put a stop to this madness.
The rest of the season sees our main character trying to survive the games and ending the season with a big cliffhanger.
The theme of the Series
Squid Game is a blend of a dystopian thriller,chaos and greed. The series captures the audience with its brutal and deadly games. In the Squid Game Season 2, we see an expanded world of VIPs, secret operatives, those opposing the game, and undercover detectives with their missions.
These elements added more depth to the storyline and deepened the plot as our beloved characters were forced to betray their friends or turn out as moles.
Is Squid Game Season 2 a Worthy Follow-Up?
Squid Game Season 2 is not as staggering as the first season,but it was worth waiting for. In comparison to the first season,the new episodes are much more developed, and keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats just like the first season. They have introduced more elements and created something more fascinating. There are many shocking surprises,and unexpected twists and turns around every corner.
Will there be a Squid Game Season 3?
This season has left a cliffhanger at the end of it ,indicating that there will be more expect in the next season. Although the exact date of the release of the third season has not been reveales,the director of the series Hwang declared that the new season is expected to be released in 2025.
Final Thoughts
New Squid Game season 2 might not be as plot-driven as the first one but it is much richer in terms of emotions and it develops the characters’ personalities more complexively. Instead of focusing on the action, it develops the relationship between the characters in their rather unfavorable circumstances. If you enjoyed binge-watching the first season, then you will enjoy this bloody survival game.
