Actors switching to Politics is not new. In a recent development, renowned South Indian actor Thalapathy Vijay is all set to embark on his political journey by registering his own political party, officially announced by the general council of his devoted fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, during a meeting held in Chennai.
The Kollywood actor, who has immense popularity in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, has been actively involved in various public welfare activities. Involvement in relief efforts during the floods in southern districts of Tamil Nadu highlights his commitment to social causes. Vijay also visited the families affected by the Thoothukudi Police firing incident in 2018.
Sources revealed that the registration process of the party is expected to be completed within the next month. Vijay is anticipated to assume the role of the party president and will also be responsible for drafting the party's by-laws ahead Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
Interestingly, Vijay's fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, has been actively participating in political programs and even contested in local body elections in Tamil Nadu.Vijay, initially hinted at making his political debut in 2026, but the recent push from his fan base made him to debut early.
The news coincides with the actor's ongoing film project, 'G.O.A.T.,' directed by Venkat Prabhu, where the shooting is scheduled to conclude by February or March.
