Diwali is a significant festival in India, and it is related to wealth and prosperity. Like many of us, Bollywood directors and producers always look out to cash in on the festival. This is one reason why, in the last few decades, we have witnessed multiple movies released in Diwali week. Not just the producers and directors, there are some actors also who always prefer to release their movies on Diwali. Actors like Ajay Devgn, Shah Rukh Khan, and Akshay Kumar have been big names in the industry who always choose to release their movies during Diwali week.
Coming to this Diwali week we have two successful franchise movies Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 at the theaters. Both films have their cult fan following and this is one of the reasons why both films have been performing well at the box office. Even both Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again have collected 100 crores on their opening weekend.
Releasing two movies at the same time is not new for Bollywood, they have been doing it for the longest time now. However, it happens rarely when two or multiple movies are released during the festival week and both films have worked well at the box office as well.

Golmaal Again vs Secret Superstar (2017)
Rohit Shetty directorial Golmaal Again and Aamir Khan starrer Secret Superstar were released during Diwali 2017. One film that was coming with its fourth sequel had a long successful franchise in back, on the other hand, one film was on the shoulders of Aamir Khan's meaningful cinema. Golmaal Again turned out to be a super hit with its more than 200 crores earnings, whereas Secret Superstar also collected around 70 crores nett turning out to be a sleeper hit.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil vs Shivaay (2016)
Karan Johar's movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil had big names like Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Anushka Sharma released during Diwali week in 2016. On the other hand, Ajay Devgn being a favorite of Diwali week also released his directorial film Shivaay. Both movies created a lot of controversies and it was an open affair discussion in the public platform of having a rift between Ajay Devgn and Karan Johar. However, it also worked for the movies as well and both movies collected more than 100 crores at the box office.

Son of Sardaar vs Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)
Yash Chopra's last directorial movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ajay Devgn starring Son of Sardaar were released in 2012 Diwali week. Being the last film of Yash Chopra to Shah Rukh Khan's first collaboration with Katrina Kaif, Jab Tak Hai Jaan had multiple reasons for the audience to be excited. The excitement turned into the numbers as well and the film worked big time at the theaters. However, the surprising element was when Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt starrer Son of Sardaar also went on to collect 100 crores at the box office, both the films turning out to be successful.

Veer Zaara vs Aitraaz (2004)
Shah Rukh Khan-Preity Zinta starring Veer Zaara and Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra starrer Aitraaz released during 2004 Diwali week. On one hand, Veer Zaara was a classic romantic movie, on the other hand, Aitraaz was dealing with a sexual harassment case. Despite being the two different vast genres, the audience accepted both movies and made them the highest-grossing movies of 2004.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai vs Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998): Karan Johar made his directorial debut with Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Despite being a newbie director, his movie clashed with successful director David Dhawan's Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which had two big names Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda. The industry was expecting big from Bade Miyan Chote Miyan but it was Kuch Kuch Hota Hai that surprised everyone being the highest-grossing movie of 1998. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan also did well at the box office and went on to be in the list of top 10 grossers of 1998.
