Short Film 'PEST' Earns 'Certificate of Excellence' at 11th Indian Cine Film Festival-23, Mumbai

A short film, PEST, won a "certificate of excellence" at the recent 11th Indian Cine Film Festival-23 in Mumbai. The movie aims to make men more aware of mensuration and its aspects, as most boys and men are not taught about it enough in schools, according to Manav Anand Ahuja, scriptwriter of the film.

The NGO Meshaan Foundation and Trippy Lenses located in Tricity produced the movie. The script writer for this short film was the city's radio jockey-turned-actor and writer Manav Anand Ahuja. PEST is an eight-minute suspense thriller about menstruation hygiene, according to the film's producers.

According to Foundation Director Prabhjot Guron Bajju, the short feature film was given a "certificate of achievement" from the 74th Calcutta International Cult Film Festival in the category of "exceptional film" earlier in August of this year. Bajju continued: “The film will be participating in many more festivals not just in India but also abroad and it is expected to get many more recognition.”

Samar Manhotra is the director of the movie. The female lead in this movie is played by actress Reet Kaur Sohal. The movie's creative producer is Ashima Chauhan and is edited by Nirp Jeet Singh Sidhu.

Manav A. Ahuja, said, “I wanted to make men aware about the menstrual aspects of women through the film PEST. This is because boys are kept away from menstruation-related education during school days, while special lectures are given only to girl students. The film aims to bridge this ‘awareness gap’ and educate men about the kind of pain women go through during their menstrual cycle.”
