Russian Political Prisoner, Alexei Navalny's wife shares a heartfelt message at Oscars 2023

'Navalny' won an Oscar for best documentary feature film. It competed against other nominated films such as 'All That Breathes',' Fire of Love',' All the beauty and the Bloodshed', and 'A House made of Splinters.'

It is directed by Daniel Roher and produced by Odessa Rae. The documentary revolves around the Russian opposition leader,anti-corruption activist, and lawyer, Alexei Navalny. Navalny is known for his investigations into corruption in Russia and for his outspoken criticism of President Vladimir Putin and his government. He first gained prominence as an activist in 2008 when he started a blog that exposed corruption in Russian state-owned companies. Since then, he has been arrested multiple times and has faced legal challenges for his activism and political opposition to the government. In August 2020, Navalny was poisoned with a nerve agent while on a flight from Siberia to Moscow. Navalny accused the Russian government of being behind the poisoning, which was later confirmed by multiple European laboratories. The movie revolves around all the events that led to his poisoning.

Navalny returned to Russia in January 2021 and was arrested upon his arrival. He was subsequently sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for violating the terms of a suspended sentence from a previous conviction. His arrest and imprisonment have been widely condemned by human rights groups and governments around the world, who have called for his release.

Yulia Navalny received this award on behalf of her husband along with all the cast and crew members of the movie. She gave a heartfelt speech by conveying an emotional message to her husband. Firstly, she thanked everyone who manifested for their win. She added that her husband was in prison just for defending democracy and telling the truth.

She took her husband’s name hoping that he was listening to her, and said that she is dreaming of the day he and the country would be free. She ended the speech with a message to him,” stay strong my love.”

Even after this win, Russia has opposed the movie, but Putin's opponents are very happy about Navalny’s win at the Oscars.
