Rashmika Mandanna slams viral 'deepfake video' featuring her face, says extremely scary

Actor Rashmika Mandanna expressed her distress over a viral deepfake video that seems to depict her entering an elevator. She described the video as "extremely scary" and shared her feelings about it on X. In her Twitter post shared her concern and misuse of technology and how she would tackle it if this had happened to her during her school or college days, she would have been at a loss for how to handle it.

 In her tweet she wrote," I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused.  Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends and well-wishers who are my protection and support system. But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how could I ever tackle this. We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft." 


However, a journalist named Abhishek Kumar who had shared the video of the actress shared the actual video on his account on X and called for "a legal action regulatory framework to deal with deepfake in India." 

According to, the journalist the original video is of a British-Indian girl named 'Zara Patel', with 415K followers on Instagram. She uploaded this video on Instagram on 9th October.

Amitabh Bachchan, who co-starred with Rashmika Mandanna in the film 'Goodbye,' expressed his support for the actress and called for legal action against the creators of the deepfake video. In response to a journalist's tweet highlighting the issue, Bachchan stated, 'Yes, this is a strong case for legal action.'

 

After the viral spread of an AI-generated deepfake video starring actress Rashmika Mandanna on social media, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar affirmed the government's dedication to ensuring digital safety for all internet users. He emphasized that platforms should promptly remove deepfake videos within 36 hours of user or government reporting.


Taking to X, the Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT wrote, “PM Narendra Modi ji's Govt is committed to ensuring Safety and Trust of all DigitalNagriks using Internet."
