R. Madhavan is the new FTII president, replaces Shekhar Kapur

Days after winning the National Award for Best Film for his directorial debut Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, R Madhavan has been named as the new President of the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, succeeding filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.

Announcement by Anurag Thakur:

The Information & Broadcasting Minister, Anurag Thakur, took to social media to make the announcement. In a tweet, he congratulated Madhavan and expressed confidence in his vast experience and strong ethics enhancing the institute's growth and bringing positive changes. Madhavan, in response, thanked Thakur for the honour.

FTII Overview:

FTII, located in Pune, Maharashtra, is under the purview of the Central Government's Information & Broadcasting Ministry. Established in 1960, it offers courses in various fields related to filmmaking and media.

Previous FTII Presidents:

Shekhar Kapur held the position before Madhavan. Notable individuals who have previously served as FTII Presidents include Roshan Taneja, RK Laxman, Shyam Benegal, Mrinal Sen, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mahesh Bhatt, BP Singh, Saeed Akhtar Mirza, Girish Karnad, Vinod Khanna, Gajendra Chauhan, Anupam Kher, and UR Ananthamurthy.
