Outrage as Group Vandalizes Pathaan Posters in Mall Amid Cancel Culture Fervor

On Wednesday, a group of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad members vandalized a mall in Ahmedabad, tearing down posters of Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming movie Pathaan. The group accused the film of promoting a "vulgar culture". Filmmaker Rahul Dholakia condemned the act, calling it "vandalism and hooliganism". The incident has sparked a debate on cancel culture in India, with many pointing out that such acts of vandalism should not be tolerated.

The term "cancel culture" refers to the common practice of withholding (cancelling) support from well-known individuals and organizations after they have said or done anything that is seen as disagreeable or disrespectful. This can include boycotting their work, calling for them to be "cancelled" on social media, and trying to get them fired.

Cancel culture is often associated with social media, where people can quickly mobilize to express their outrage and call for consequences. Some people believe that cancel culture is necessary to hold influential people accountable for their actions and words. In contrast, others see it as a form of mob justice that can lead to the punishment of people for minor or even accidental offences.

The Pathaan film's creators have been instructed to make revisions by The Central Board of Film Certification to have it certified. The movie's release date is set for January 2023.
