Oscars: India's 'The Elephants Whisperers' wins Oscar for Best Documentary Short Film

‘The Elephant Whisperers’ has made history by becoming the first Indian documentary to win an Oscar. This short film competed against other nominated films such as ‘Stranger at the Gate’,’ How do you measure a year’,’ Haulout’ and ‘The Martha Mitchell Effect.’

‘The Elephant Whisperers’ is a Tamil short film directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga. It has a duration of 41 minutes. It is a story about a man and a woman who married each other for a beautiful reason, i.e., their love for elephants. The real stars of the show are the Elephant Whisperers, Bommon, and Bellie. It is because of their consent to show their beautiful life to the world, that this movie has gotten such an honor.

Guneet Monga and Kartiki Gonsalves accepted the 95th academy award along with other team members, on behalf of the entire cast and crew of the movie. Gonsalves gave an acceptance speech while her hands were shivering, as she was overwhelmed with the response to the movie. Guneet took to social media to express her feelings about the win. She thanked everyone who made the movie happen. She wrote that her heart was full of love and excitement. She further added that it was mostly because of everyone in India who cheered for them.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team of the short film, ‘The Elephant Whisperers.’ He wrote that their work wonderfully highlighted the importance of sustainable development and living in harmony with nature.
