Oppenheimer furore: Key character reads Bhagavad Gita during sex scene

On Friday, July 21, the eagerly awaited Oppenheimer movie, which is based on the life of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, was released. For weeks before its release people had been curious about what filmmaker Christopher Nolan would have added to the movie about the man who created the atomic bomb. What they did not anticipate, however, was Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer reading the Bhagavad Gita while engaging in sexual activity.

People are outraged by the scene and have voiced their disappointment and objection on social media. The Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) came under fire from many for allowing the scene to remain in the film.

Oppenheimer is Nolan's first R-rated film in more than 20 years. After the studio edited several sex scene scenes to shorten the picture, the Censor Board Of Film Certification in India gave the movie a U/A grade. According to reports, the studio made the modifications on its own accord since it didn't think the CBFC would approve those scenes.

As per reports, CBFC asked the filmmakers for one change only, which is to remove the word ‘a*****e’ from audio and subtitles. But the boards kept the shot in which Jean Tatlock (played by Florence Pugh) makes Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) read from the Bhagavad Gita while having sexual intercourse.

People are criticizing the movie for the sequence, which is being called "disrespectful" by many.
