No more Maharaja - Air India looks for new mascot

Air India is likely to change their traditional mascot which is a “Maharaja icon”.This very icon has been ruling the hearts of all Indians, over the years, no matter how many sophisticated and varied mascots have come their way. According to a report by the Economic Times, the TATA group is planning to rebrand their Airlines, and give it an all-new face, as the mascot right now, has to step back.

As part of this, the airline has decided to work on a cocktail of colours including red, white, purple etc. The purple colour will represent Vistara Airlines, which will soon be merged with TATA’s airline business.

“Air India wants to become the carrier of choice for people flying in and out of India. A large section of the fliers will be for business travellers and corporate executives. Maharajah, who wears a turban and has an outsized moustache, though a very successful story, doesn’t resonate anymore with these kinds of customers. It has also been maligned, repurposed multiple times” a source has mentioned in an Economic Times report.
