In this battle, six inmates, who had meticulously planned for months, launched a violent escape attempt that involved overpowering guards using makeshift weapons fashioned from stolen tools. They took control of a cellblock and took hostages. However, the move failed when a prison guard sounded the alarm. Two days of tense standoffs followed, with gunfire flying around the prison. In the end, all escapees were killed or recaptured, but the audacity of the attempt and the violence that ensued cemented Alcatraz's place in history as an impregnable fortress and brought the world's attention to its audacity.

In fact, before then, the theory of such systems had been the farthest astronomers could go. Herschel's discovery added to our understanding of the binary star system and opened up a new era in the study of stellar astronomy.
